According to the Ministry, today marked the historic first full train crossing the iconic bridge between Dugga and Bakkal stations over the Chenab River, the world’s greatest railway line. 

Rail service on the line from Reasi to Baramulla in Kashmir will start today. When Indian Railways successfully completes an eight-coach MEMU railway trial run over the Chenab Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir.

The study had been carried out successfully; it departed Sangaldan at 12:35 p.m. and arrived in Reasi at 2:05 p.m. Along the way, it passed through nine tunnels totaling 40.787 km in length, with the longest tunnel being T-44 at 11.13 km.

According to the Ministry, today marked the historic first full train to cross the iconic bridge between Dugga and Bakkal stations. Over the Chenab River, the greatest railway line in the world.

The stations — Reasi, Bakkal, Dugga, and Sawlakote — are located in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.

“The electrification work on this section has been done using state-of-the-art technology, ROCS (Rigid Overhead Conductor System) at 25 kV, for the first time on railways,” the ministry stated.

Upon the arrival of the mainline electric multiple unit (MEMU) train at Reasi railway station. Cheers of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ echoed as a large crowd gathered to witness this historic event. The rail carried undertaking employees and railway officials.

As set up, Sangaldan took place at 12:35 p.m. and landed in Reasi at 2:05 p.m. 

Along the way, the train passed through nine tunnels totaling 40.787 km in length, with the longest tunnel being T-44 at 11.13 km.

Indian Railways conducted a trial run on the newly constructed greatest railway line, the Chenab Rail Bridge, linking Sangaldan in Ramban district to Reasi on Thursday. Rail services on this line will commence shortly.

“People congratulated Narendra Modi, the prime minister for creating a connection to Kashmir and Reasi.

The train service from Reasi to Kashmir could start by the end of this month. Said former sarpanch Raj Kumar Sharma, who attended the event. He recalled that 20 years ago when the work began. There were many challenges as the railways had to carve paths through mountains and construct tunnels.

“Today, the engine arrived with a few coaches, and we expect that full train services will commence in the coming days,” he added.

Similarly, Tarun Sharma journeyed from Reasi railway station to Dhugga and described the trip as historic. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project,. Which includes the 48.1-km-long Banihal-Sangaldan section, on February 20, 2024.

Phase I of the project, covering the 118-kilometer-long Qazigund-Baramulla section, was in October 2009 under the Congress-led UPA government. Afterwards,, phases saw the launch of the 18-kilometer-long Banihal-Qazigund section. In summer 2013 and the 25 km Udhampur-Katra section in July 2014.
