Following an unexpected setback in our opening game against the co-host United States, where we faced defeat in the Super Over at Dallas, Pakistan found itself confronting yet another challenge against our formidable rivals, India. As we gather here today at the International Cricket Stadium in New York for the 2024 T20 World Cup, the stage is indeed set.

The buzz and anticipation heightened in the packed Long Island stadium,. Indian fans outnumbered those supporting Pakistan as the game resumed after a nearly hour-long rain delay.

Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, India encountered a mid-innings collapse on a challenging two-paced track, leading to a disappointing all-out tally of 119 runs in 19 overs. Despite the commendable effort of Rishabh Pant, who scored 42 runs off 31 balls, the team couldn’t overcome the hurdles. It’s worth noting that India had been put in to bat under overcast conditions

In a match characterized by dramatic swings, Pakistan, known for its unpredictable performances,. Appeared to have control of the game, needing 48 runs off as many balls with eight wickets in hand. However, the pace duo of the ever-effective Jasprit Bumrah (3/14) and Hardik Pandya (2/24) orchestrated a remarkable comeback for India with incisive spells. As a consequence, Pakistan suffered a flurry of wickets, culminating in a total of 113 for seven in 20 overs.

This match marked the second-lowest total ever successfully defended at the men’s T20 World Cup. Additionally, it stands as the lowest total ever defended by India in a full T20I. Further solidifying its impressive 7-1 record in T20 internationals against Pakistan.

India secured an eight-wicket victory against Ireland in their opening game at the same venue. Establishing a leading position in T20 World Cup Group A with four points. India’s superior net run rate places them ahead of the USA, which also has four points from wins over Canada and Pakistan.

In the T20 World Cup format, only two teams from each of the four groups progress to the second stage. Therefore, Pakistan must secure victories in its remaining games against Canada and Ireland. Additionally, it needs favorable results from other group games to advance to the Super 8s.

“Must win the remaining two matches. We’ll analyze our mistakes and focus on the upcoming games,” stated Pakistan skipper Babar Azam following the match.
