District officials in Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu hooch tragedy, acknowledged on Monday the number of people killed. In the illegal liquor incident had increased to 57. Currently receiving care in the state’s government hospitals are 156 patients in total. Of them, twelve are in Puducherry, twenty are in Salem, four are in Viluppuram, and 110 are being treated at Kallakurichi Government Medical College.
A total of seven individuals two women and five guys, said they got treatment and were then freed. 32 people passed away at the Government Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital in Salem. 18 at the Government Villupuram Medical College and Hospital, three at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in Puducherry, and four at the It Government Medical College and Hospital.

Chief Minister MK Stalin has set up substantial aid schemes for injured families. Which include funding for orphaned kids to go to school and the cost of housing. Children who lost both parents will get a fixed deposit of Rs 5 lakh in addition to Rs 5000 each month till they turn 18 years old. In addition, clients of government welfare programs who have lost a parent would receive Rs 3 lakh and comparable priority.
Political scandals have been generated by the happening. Opposition figure Edapaddi Singh has called the government’s handling of it “a murder of democracy.” TKS Elangovan, the leader of the DMK, responded that the opposition was politicizing the tragedy and justified the current government’s actions.

In response to the public outcry over the Tamil Nadu Hooch Tragedy, Tamil Nadu police have intensified. Their crackdown on illicit liquor, seizing and destroying over 250 liters in Tiruchirapalli district. The CB-CID police branch is actively investigating. The incident related to the Tamil Nadu Hooch Tragedy, has led to the arrest of seven individuals thus far.
Chief Minister MK Stalin has ordered a judicial inquiry into the tragedy, headed by retired Madras High Court judge Justice B Gokuldas, with a report expected within three months. This move comes amid ongoing efforts to address public safety concerns and hold accountable those responsible for the illicit liquor supply.
Actor and politician Kamal Haasan of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) visited victims in Kallakurichi. Emphasizing caution in alcohol consumption and advocating for health awareness and rehabilitation programs.
