History:
I’m excited to tell you the touching tale of how our 1,851-meter-above-sea level temple was restored. A dedicated crew of expert craftspeople from Rohru and Kinnaur toiled relentlessly day and night for more than three and a half years. Using elaborate silverwork and traditional woodcarving to restore the ancient building. On July 20, 2018, ninety monks publicly restored the Ma Tara statue. Our temple has a rich and colorful 250-year history that includes a mysterious famous story. According to legend, the statue of Goddess Tara arrived in Himachal Pradesh from its native West Bengal. While hunting close to Juggar’s deep jungle, a Sen dynasty monarch dreamed of Goddess Tara, Lord Hanuman, and Bhairav. They begged him to show the people their heavenly presence. Responding to the divine request, the Maharaja decided to fulfill Ma Tara’s wishes and generously donated approximately 50 bighas of land to construct the temple. Thus, a temple emerged, housing a wooden idol of the deity for worshippers to seek blessings.
In subsequent years, another king from the same dynasty had a vision wherein Ma Tara expressed her desire to reside atop Tarav Parvat. Consequently, the temple was relocated to the hilltop. In a grand ceremony in 1825, a magnificent idol made of “Ashtadhatu” was installed. Since then, members of the Sen dynasty have faithfully adhered to age-old traditions. Worshiping their family Goddess on the auspicious Asthami day each year.
